Travel Post | Cadiz, Spain
Well, first things first, this day trip was organized through Disney Cruise Line. Disney's team does an excellent job at find reputable tour groups for you, making it that much easier to enjoy your vacation. We have always had really good experiences with all of the excursions we’ve done, on all the different itineraries we've done.
The first stop of our tour was near the port where the ship docked. The square called Plaza De Espana is home to the Monument to the Constitution of 1812. The architect Modesto Lopez Otero and the sculptor Aniceto Marinas designed this monument to represent important concepts ie: the lower level is fashioned to represent the chamber and an empty presidential chair, the next level has important quotes and inscriptions, peace and war are represented on each side by bronze figures, and in the center a large column to represent all of the constitutions principles, and the female figure to represent Spain and the sculptural groupings to represent the importance of agriculture and citizenship.
Next, after some walking through the main areas of Cadiz, we headed to the Tower of Tavira - which has the Camera Obscura in it, and a panorama view from on top of it.
The Camera Obscura is a very large version of the camera mechanism in a regular camera, only you can see the entire city in real time. That being said, they don’t allow you to take pictures or video tape because its live views of people who are just living their lives, doing laundry on the rooftop terrace and such, it would be a huge invasion of privacy!
The tower is quite tall, which for obvious reasons means stairs… Lots and lots of stairs. Check out the video link at the top of the page to see a time lapse of the trek to the top.
After stoping at the camera level, we went up the to roof top were the views were just jaw dropping. The entire city was so quiet but as you looked around you started to notice people doing things in the peacefulness of the afternoon.
Next, we went to a small market after we descended the tower. There were little food shops, pottery, electronics, everything- even a bridal shop- all tucked in this little alley courtyard. It was so serene - I was able to leave the live sound on without having any loud interruptions! So peaceful!

James bought me a Lilly even too, it was so pretty. We found some pastries to munch and we waited to meet back up with my parents and the others from the group.
While we meandered through town, we found ourselves at the Catedral de Cadiz. A beautiful church located in a small square. We were unable to go inside the church due to timing, but the outside was astounding, hand crafted beauty.
Well, for a full day excursion you could say we were beat by the time we walked back to the ship. We had so much fun, and so much sun we were all ready for dinner and some shade!
